Working from a color slide which is developed onto
Polaroid Time Zero film, the image is carefully manipulated by hand
using various tools directly on the emulsion. This is done as the layers
of color in the film are setting — typically within the first few
hours after the film is exposed.
The results often make you wonder if you’re looking
through antique glass, or if somehow the image is under water. Ms.
Satterwhite brings out a totally new interpretation of the original
image, and incorporates digital special effects on a tiny percent of her
work.
She chooses very specific images for this technique
from her large collection of slides. Many are chosen for that intimate
feeling that draws you into the photo and requires a second or third
look.
